The Opportunity

Located in downtown Toronto, the largest and most culturally diverse city in Canada and on the territory of the Anishinaabeg, Haudenosaunee and the Wendat Peoples, Toronto Metropolitan University invites applications for the position of Chair in the Department of Marketing Management, School of Business Management in the Ted Rogers School of Management (TRSM) with the successful candidate to be appointed for a term of three or five years (subject to extension in year 3), commencing September 1, 2024, with the possibility of renewal for an additional three- or five-year term.

Responsibilities

The duties and responsibilities of the Chair are laid out in detail in article 26.1.E. of the Toronto Metropolitan Faculty Association Collective Agreement. Reporting to the Dean, the Chair will provide exemplary academic and administrative leadership, including stewardship of human and financial resources, and will work collaboratively to provide leadership for curriculum and faculty development, research and scholarly activity while promoting and coordinating the continued evolution of the department.  The new Chair will be a visionary leader who can take the Department of Marketing Management to the next level of achievement, consistent with the Academic Plan of the Faculty and the University.

The Chair will be responsible for building partnerships with industry that will provide learning and employment opportunities for our students, including the Co-operative Education program or experiential opportunities for students. The individual must be committed to excellence in teaching, research and student engagement, and to promoting a transparent and collegial academic culture that blends theory and practice in undergraduate and graduate education.

As a tenured faculty member, the successful candidate will be responsible for engaging in a combination of teaching, scholarly research or creative activity and service duties while maintaining an inclusive, equitable, and collegial work environment across all activities. 

 

Qualifications

  • ability to provide effective academic and administrative leadership, including mentorship to junior faculty;
  • experience in university teaching at the graduate and/or undergraduate levels; 
  • experience in developing student engagement initiatives;
  • ability to promote the department and across the faculty, university, and related community; 
  • strong connection with industry which includes evidence in developing strategic partnerships and/or obtaining funding; 
  • demonstrated commitment to upholding the values of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion as it pertains to service, teaching, and scholarly, research or creative activities; and 
  • preferably an active scholar, with an established line of research and broader academic service within one's community.

  • a statement outlining a proposed three-year plan (for more information about the Department, please click here). It should include the applicant’s vision for the Department, building upon the applicant's perceptions of the existing strengths of the Department, and those characteristics required of a Department of this size, with relevant academic programs (your three-year plan can be in point form; 4 page maximum).
  • a statement of interest addressing the candidate’s role as an administrator, educator and researcher; and
  • names and contact information of three individuals who may be contacted for references.
